Engraved Slate Memorials
Slate is a beautiful stone for memorials. Each piece is different with lovely natural markings. We carry a lot of slate on-site in different thicknesses – 12mm, 20mm, 30mm, 50mm and a smaller amount of 75mm. We cut each piece to order. We then create a special rubber stencil using a computer and plotter which is how we can be so creative with the designs. The slate is then sand-blasted to carve out the lettering.
The letters and images are spray painted with very tough commercial paint. We do have many standard colours along with a metallic memorial gold and silver. Finally, the slate is sanded and the edges bevelled. We normally do a small bevel but can do a larger 45-degree bevel if prefered.
In the 12mm and 20mm slate we can drill holes if required.

For detailed images, we can inlay a painted panel into the slate. This is then placed under a laser and laser etched to show all the fine detail. It is an excellent technique with crisp clean lines. It is ideal for military crests. It can also be used for blocks of small text.

Full colour plaque inset into slate memorial
Full Colour Plaque Insert
This is a beautiful and long-lasting way of adding a full-colour image to your slate memorial. It is not as some firms are doing direct printing onto slate, which will be cheaper but only last a few years.
We sandblast the slate to create a recess. This is painted the same colour as the lettering. We then insert an anodised aluminium plaque into the recess. The result looks amazing and will last a very long time.

We make beautiful engraved slate memorials just the way you want them. You can choose from a huge range of Fonts along with one of our standard Images if required. You can send in your own images or ask our designer to find one or you.

The Wording
The price includes 25 characters with extra letters being £5.50 per 10. The lettering can be left engraved and unpainted or painted in any of our range of colours. Popular colours are white, black, Farrow and Ball Purbeck Stone which is light grey and Farrow and Ball Lichen which is light green.
