Natural Burial Grounds
The first natural burial ground was opened in 1993 and there are now hundreds of natural burial sites across the country. Each one is individual, there are wildflower meadows, manicured parks, existing woodland and new woodlands where a tree is planted over the grave.
They provide habitats for wildlife and green spaces for people to enjoy. Even the traditional cemeteries are adding areas for green burials although many of the natural burial sites are privately owned. We have created a List of Natural Burial Ground in the UK
Many people have who have looked after the environment throughout their life want to make sure they do so at their death. This is something we totally understand. Part to the ethos of our company is to look after the countryside, along with its wildlife, that surrounds us.

Memorials for Natural Burial Grounds
The memorials allowed vary at each site, but many will allow wooden memorials as long as there no metal is used. There are some which will allow a slate lawn memorial, but a wooden tablet is more common. On this page, we have included some memorials you may be able to use, but you must first check with the burial ground or woodland burial site.
Wooden Memorials
Wooden memorials can be made in all kinds of shapes and sizes. The designer will create the artwork following your instructions and the carpenters will make it just the way you want it. The wooden memorials we make vary from a small wooden plaque to a heavy solid wooden headstone. We use a variety of timbers, the main ones for memorials being Oak, Iroko and Balau. For natural burial sites which only allow wooden memorials without metal fittings, we make a 3″ x3″ wooden post with the top cut at 45 degrees to which we can fit the wooden memorial using dowels.
Wooden Crosses
In the workshops, we make wooden crosses in five standard sizes as well as other bespoke sizes for our customers. They are usually made in oak although oil-rich Iroko (similar to teak) tends to be better for low maintenance crosses. For natural burial sites, the wording is normally lasered into the cross, but we can also attach a plaque if required. As well as the natural wood crosses, we also make painted memorial crosses.

Solid Wooden Tablets
We make a lot of these heavy wooden tablets and they are perfect as lawn memorials. We engrave detailed text and images using a laser which burns into the wood to create the design without the need of paintfill. For larger text, we can use a CNC router which will engrave more deeply. There is a choice of timbers we can use each with its own properties.

Wooden Ash Caskets – No Metal Parts
Our carpenters will make oak caskets for woodland and natural burials which contain no metal parts. Everything is fixed together with wooden dowels. We have three standard sizes, but as always we can make just the way you want. We can sell them plain or with the wording on the top or side or even on both. We can also include a simple image or design feature.
Slate Lawn Memorial
Some natural burial sites do allow a simple slate lawn memorial. We make them to any size and in various thicknesses – 12mm 20mm, 30mm, 50mm and 75mm. The lettering and any images if required are sandblasted. They can be painted or left unpainted. As with all our memorials, there is a huge choice of fonts as well images you can use on the design. You design can be very simple or contain lots of words and images.
